How a commission works,
and what it costs

Three meetings, six to eight weeks, and a price that follows from the cloth and the work rather than from a fixed list. This page sets out all three.

Three meetings

  • The appointment. At the atelier, or at an address of your choosing. The occasion is discussed, the design takes shape, and measurements are taken. About an hour and a half. Remote commissions are reserved for returning clients.
  • The toile fitting. Roughly 15 to 20 days later. A trial garment in substitute cloth, cut to your measurements, worn and corrected on you.
  • Delivery. Roughly 20 to 30 days after the fitting.

Six to eight weeks in total, though the design, the cloth and the number of corrections all move that figure. The schedule is confirmed at the first appointment, once we know what is being made.

What the fitting is for

A toile is not a formality. It is where proportion, shoulder line, ease of movement and the way cloth falls are settled - on your body, not on a mannequin.

What is learned there changes the finished garment. A hem that reads well standing may not read well seated; a sleeve that measures correctly may still bind when you reach. These are the things a fitting exists to find.

Bespoke, or made-to-measure

Bespoke is the full process above: an original design, a pattern cut for one person, and a toile fitting before the garment is made.

Made-to-measure begins from an established style and adjusts it to your measurements, within the details that style allows. Fewer decisions, a shorter schedule, a lower price. Which suits you is worth discussing at the appointment rather than deciding beforehand.

Price guidance

  • Suits, coats and evening wear - from RMB 13,000
  • Dresses - from RMB 8,000
  • A single jacket - from RMB 8,000
  • Trousers, skirts and waistcoats - from RMB 5,000
  • Made-to-measure tailoring - RMB 5,000 to 8,000

These are starting figures, not a price list. What a commission finally costs follows from the cloth, the technique it asks for, the complexity of the design and how much correction the fitting calls for. A written proposal and quotation settle it before any cutting begins.

Before you come

You do not need a sketch, a fabric in mind, or any knowledge of pattern cutting. The occasion, the date and how you want to feel are enough to begin from.
